Addendums

Hello,I've recently been asked to create an addendum to one of our printed user guides. We do not have a style guide for addendums. I've noticed quite a few different formats online. When you write addendums, do you list/describe the new functionality, or do you reference the page in the existing manual that is changing? I'm wondering which approach is more common. Thanks for your help!SusanSee More

Metrics in technical communication

Hello,My group has recently move from Framemaker to a DITA-based authoring system. We'd like to provide some metrics that show how this new system has reduced costs and increased productivity. Have you come across any good metrics that you use? We've looked at things like word count and print cost, but I wasn't sure if there were any other meaningful metrics that could be used. Thanks for your feedback.SusanSee More

Documentation to meet regulator requirements

Hi everyone,I've really enjoyed reading all the posts on the site. There's some great information out there from technical communication experts.I have a question regarding documentation to meeting regulatory requirements. We have to provide approval and safety information in each language of the EU. It has to be printed and included with all shipments. How are other companies handling this issue? Do you keep separate documents for each language? Do you create one big manual that includes all…See More

"One of the problems for the user with a book with 22 languages in it is that it is heavy to use and takes up a lot of space for very little actual information -- less than 5% of the book is relevant to them. Have you considered shipping each of the…"
